Meet the Principal
Hello Central & Takena Families! My name is Shannon Richards and I am honored to serve as the principal of both Central and Takena Elementary Schools here in the Greater Albany Public School system. Takena is home to our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students, and just down the road at Central, our students continue to learn and grow in 3rd through 5th grades.
My career in education has taken me across borders and state lines. I have had the privilege of teaching in Mexico, Las Vegas, Nevada, and several school districts in Washington State as well as serving as a principal in Washington. I am grateful for these diverse experiences which have shaped and broadened my understanding of different educational systems and cultural contexts.
My husband, Bob and I moved to Albany a few years ago to be near our grown children and grandchildren. We thoroughly enjoy spending time with all of them playing games, vacationing and just being together regularly. Mr. Richards is the principal at Sunrise Elementary here in Albany. We sharpen each other's thinking and share our best ideas for helping students be the best they can be.
Here at Central and Takena, we believe in "high love and high expectations", caring deeply for students and helping them grow academically and socially. We look forward to partnering with families in this endeavor! Join our active Parent Teacher Club (PTC) or attend any of our family events throughout the year. Together, we can educate the leaders of the future.
Shannon Richards

"Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."
